Has Your TikTok Reach Decreased? Don’t Panic!

TikTok has just rolled out a massive algorithm update that completely redefines what time you should be posting, what hashtags to use, ideal video length, feature utilization, and much more. If you’ve noticed a decrease in your reach lately, these changes might be the reason. But don’t worry! By simply implementing these new strategies, growing on TikTok – and even monetizing your content – is now easier than ever before!

I’ve recently helped creators gain over 50,000, 80,000, and even 100,000 followers. Every single one of them can now make a full-time living simply by uploading to TikTok.

Strategy 1: Master the New TikTok Posting Times

TikTok’s recommendation engine is now even more geo-focused. This means your content is more likely to be shown to users in your current time zone or geographical location. Therefore, it’s crucial to post at times relevant to your specific timezone.

Important Rules:

  • Geo-Relevance: Posting times should be based on your current time zone.
  • Posting Interval: Wait at least 1 hour between posts. Failing to do so makes your content ineligible for the “For You Page” and significantly decreases your reach.

The Three Best TikTok Posting Times for 2025 (Adjust for Your Timezone):

  • 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
  • 3:30 PM – 5:00 PM
  • 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Testing Strategy: Post 15 videos in a cyclical pattern: “First time slot - Second time slot - Third time slot - First time slot,” and so on. This will help you discover the optimal posting times for your specific niche.

Strategy 2: Optimize Your Hashtag Strategy

Hashtags are critical, but using them incorrectly can backfire. You need to use the most relevant and largest hashtags.

Why?

  • Relevance: If your content is shown to uninterested users, TikTok will perceive it as unpopular, leading to low views.
  • Scale: If your hashtags are too niche with a small audience, TikTok will think there isn’t a large audience for your content, similarly affecting reach.

Four Hashtag Strategies to Test:

  • 12 Hashtags
  • 3-4 Hashtags
  • 1-2 Hashtags
  • 5-6 Hashtags

Cycle through each of these strategies five times. Then, analyze your reach data and use the most effective one predominantly. Notably, the 5-6 hashtag strategy has led to the most small accounts going viral.

The topic of your content drastically impacts your views. Even two videos of equal quality and length, if one targets a significantly larger audience, it will get more reach. Sometimes, a one-word difference in your video’s hook, description, tags, or even transcript/voiceover can be the deciding factor for virality.

How to Find Trending Topics?

  1. TikTok “Explore” Page (tiktok.com/explore):
  • Regularly visit TikTok’s “Explore” page. This reveals what’s currently trending in your specific niche.
  • Create content on these trending topics.
  1. TikTok Search Bar:
  • Type your keywords into the TikTok search bar. It will suggest other trending search terms and trends.
  • Click on these trending terms to see the most popular videos and learn how they are made.
  1. Keyword Trend Insights (Red Arrow Indicator):
  • When preparing to upload, type your key phrase into the hook or caption. If a red upward arrow appears next to it, it indicates increasing engagement for that keyword – a trending signal from TikTok.
  • Pay attention to these red arrows; they signify topics with massive audience potential.
  1. Follow Trending Creators:
  • Find top creators in your niche on the “Explore” feed.
  • Browse their recent posts to identify what sounds, video lengths, hooks, and formats are currently working. Emulating these successful elements is a “cheat code” to increase your reach.

Strategy 4: Decoding the TikTok Algorithm – What Is It Really Looking For?

The core of the TikTok algorithm is this: it wants to show users more content that looks like what they’ve interacted with before. This applies not only to your viewing experience but also to your ideal viewer. To reach them, you need to understand what specific formats, topics, lengths, and hooks they are engaging with, then create content that aligns.

TikTok analyzes four core elements in your videos:

  1. Keywords (Transcript / On-screen / Description / Hashtags / Comments):
  • Transcript/Voiceover: Say the keyword in your video’s voiceover.
  • On-screen Text: Display the keyword on the screen.
  • Description: Include the keyword in your video description.
  • Hashtags: Use relevant keywords as hashtags.
  • Comment Section Engagement: Encourage viewers to comment and respond to comments using relevant keywords.

Example: If your video is about “iPhone 17,” then “iPhone” or “iPhone 17” should appear in your voiceover, on-screen text, description, hashtags, and in your interactions within the comment section. TikTok uses these signals to understand your content’s topic and push it to interested users.

  1. Video Length (Matching Trending Topics):
  • TikTok matches content topics and formats with viewers who watch those topics and formats.
  • If videos on a trending topic are generally going viral at around 1 minute and 10 seconds, your video on the same topic should also aim for a similar length.
  • If your trending topic video’s length, format, or keyword usage doesn’t align with typically successful videos, TikTok might not push it out.
  1. Keywords in Comment Engagement:
  • TikTok closely monitors the keywords your ideal audience is commenting in your videos.
  • Utilize this by actively encouraging comments with keywords relevant to your video’s topic, or by subtly incorporating these keywords into your replies. This sends a strong signal to the TikTok algorithm that your video is highly relevant to those keywords, leading to recommendations for more potential viewers.

Seize TikTok’s Golden Age!

Now is the golden age for monetizing on TikTok. If you’re stuck recreating the wheel and seeing slower growth, it’s because you’re not adapting. Stop comparing yourself to other accounts and start asking: “What is my ideal audience interacting with right now? How can I create content like that and consistently upload it?”

If you implement these strategies, you’ll experience faster growth, more views, and even be able to make a full-time living simply by uploading videos to TikTok. This organic reach won’t last forever, so seize the opportunity now!
